Mary Hallock Foote collection, 1871-1896.

Autograph letters and writings by Mary Hallock Foote. The twenty-one letters are primarily to her friends the Beach family, residents of Peekskill. A letter of February 7, 1881 contains a description of Mexico City, and a letter of March 19, 1887 contains condolences after the death of their friend Henry Ward Beecher. Three letters are to editor Benjamin Holt Ticknor concerning her work. The letters are accompanied by two autograph manuscripts of The Led-Horse Claim (Chapters XII-XVII) and The Last Assembly Ball: A Pseudo-Romance of the Far West. The manuscript of the Led-Horse Claim was used for printing the final installment in the Century magazine.
